Report: Lawyer to contest house arrest of Russian ex-econ min
MOSCOW, Nov 16 (PRIME) -- The defense of Russian former Economic Development Minister Alexei Ulyukayev will contest a court decision to put the official under house arrest, lawyer Timofei Gridnev told radio Ekho Moskvy on Wednesday.
“After a careful study of the materials of the case, we decided to appeal against the decision. The appeal will be submitted over the next two days,” Gridnev said.
The Investigative Committee earlier detained Ulyukayev and launched a criminal case on charges of receiving a U.S. $2 million bribe for granting the ministry’s approval that allowed oil major Rosneft to buy the state’s 50.08% stake in Bashneft. The Basmanny District Court put Ulyukayev under house arrest on Tuesday in the evening.
President Vladimir Putin dismissed Ulyukayev from his post due to the loss of confidence on Tuesday.
